History
The mill ground grain, sawed timber and made electricity
Built in 1893 in the Sammatti countryside, the mill ground grain for the cooperative's members, sawed timber and even produced electricity for the village. The farm later passed into private hands and took the name Vuorikoski after its owner at the time.
Today the farm is home to an entrepreneur couple working in visual fields. Restored to its original look, the mill is open in the summer season and on Advent weekends before Christmas. In 2023 the mill turned 130, and summer 2026 marked five years since the sign went up by the road and today's Vuorikoski began.

The makers
The story of the makers behind the mill
What happens when two hands-on country boys are kept too long in a cramped city flat? It can spark an unstoppable urge to renovate and dig, which flares up like a bonfire once the right place comes along. That is how they arrived in Myllykylä, Sammatti, at an overgrown plot with an old mill at the far end that had ended up as a junk store. Yes, we'll take it!
A couple of years later the thicket had become a garden and the buildings were restored to the look they deserve. Why are we sitting here on our own? What if we opened the place to the villagers? Let's put the handiwork piling up in the sheds on sale in the yard barn and open the doors of the museum mill. The clock struck eleven, the first customers came, then the next and the next, and the flow never stopped.
Now, five years later, Vuorikosken Mylly has become a shared living room for locals and summer cottagers, welcoming thousands of visitors every year. Everyone is welcome here!
